Toronto, Canada. May 30, 2011 – Intelliware Development Inc., a leader in standards-based application development, announces it is providing students in the University of Victoria's School of Health Information Science with access to the Test Level 7 (TL7™) e-Health interoperability testing platform.
Dr. Francis Lau, Professor and CIHR/Infoway e-Health Chair at the University of Victoria School of Health Information Science, and recipient of the 2010 Canadian Health Informatics Award for outstanding leadership, has been using TL7 to provide undergraduate and graduate students with hands-on exposure to HL7v3 messaging. Many students are clinicians and IT professionals already working in healthcare organizations. Dr. Lau's course enables these students to relate what they learn directly to their workplace. Now all students will have access to TL7 and will be able to gain valuable experience with testing and implementing standards-based interoperability solutions. Bringing commercially available systems and tools to students further demonstrates leadership and supports the School's mission to improve healthcare delivery systems by educating individuals to be effective developers, users and managers of health information resources.
"We aim to provide our students with the most comprehensive knowledge in the area of health information standards," explains Dr. Lau, University of Victoria. "Students need to have an understanding of the issues faced in delivering real healthcare technology solutions and can gain some of this knowledge and experience by using leading edge tools as part of the curriculum. Access to Test Level 7 will support this learning and experience."
Intelliware has provided a number of tools to the standards and developer communities and is an active participant in healthcare standards organizations. The company is pleased to support the University of Victoria by providing the Test Level 7 premium solution for academic use on a no-fee basis.
"We are continuing to develop and improve Test Level 7. Alliances such as this enable us to support innovation and contribute to the development of future healthcare technology leaders while at the same time gain valuable input on the use and relevance of our solutions," explains Greg McKenzie, Senior Vice President e-Health, Intelliware. "The increased focus on interoperability conformance and certification programs in many jurisdictions requires new skills and solutions. We are pleased to work with the School of Health Information Science at the University of Victoria to address this."
