Here’s a great article on the importance of Ada Lovelace to technology in general, and the field of software engineering in particular.

Ada Lovelace was an accomplished mathematician and writer, and is most widely known for her work on Charles Babbage’s early mechanical general-purpose computer, the Analytical Engine. Her notes on how to create instructions for Babbage’s invention are recognised as the first algorithm intended to be carried out by a machine. As a result, she is regarded as the first computer programmer.

With a seeming chronic shortage of female engineers these days, it’s important to recognize the phenomenal contributions that women have made to scientific fields for centuries.

To help celebrate, today Intelliware is hosting an Ada Lovelace Day event for young women in middle and high schools interested in finding more about STEM-based careers.

We look forward to hosting these young engineers today, and want to say thanks to the women at Intelliware that help make us leaders in innovative software development.
