A leading-edge technology raises the game for all sports fans

As sports leagues across the United States and Canada start to reopen, their challenge is to reinvent what it means to attend a LIVE sports event. With no sightline to future ticket sales revenue, sports leagues need new ways to enrich the digital fan experience. Enter ProWire®, an innovative Intelliware client that raises the game excitement by personalizing the live sports experience.

ProWire’s proprietary, low-latency audio technology streams real-time audio from players, referees, and commentators, straight to a fan’s mobile phone. Fans watching an event simply download the app then choose from a selection of feeds offering everything from broadcast commentary to exclusive live player mics! Just like that, fans are drawn into the play—personalizing the game experience on their terms.

ProWire has been adopted by NHL teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers, as well as ATP tennis events and UFC.

Prowire App on Phone

Developed by Intelliware, the ingenious ProWire app delivers what sports fans, teams, and leagues need: a richer live event experience. It’s powered by CrowdFlex™️, ProWire’s patent-pending low-latency real-time technology that captures and processes live audio at the event then streams content directly to the fan’s phone.

The back-end infrastructure allows ProWire administrators to completely customize the app experience for each event. Fans gain access to content by joining the venue’s fan WiFi network. Meanwhile, fan interaction with the app enables ProWire to serve paid ads and branded content to further personalize the experience.

An amazing start

Since debuting in the sports industry in 2016, ProWire has quickly earned its place in the majors, attracting a who’s who of sports franchises and leagues. The company was also selected to join the Future of Sport Lab, a sport innovation platform launched by Ryerson University and Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment.

“We are fortunate to have started working with Intelliware from the very beginning. The technical foundation and flexibility of the ProWire app is in large part due to their foresight and technical expertise. We have been able to get to market quickly and continue to innovate with our sports partners to pursue new activation and content strategies.” – Gordon Sumner, Co-Founder, ProWire

Working with an executive briefing, a PowerPoint presentation, and design mockups of the user interface, Intelliware took charge of every aspect of the product development. Training the ProWire technical team through day-to-day remote collaboration, Intelliware defined the technical strategy, created the user experience, then deployed and refined the app—all while implementing remote Agile development best practices.

“Building such an innovative app was an exciting opportunity for Intelliware. We focused on spiking the technical risks early to ensure the app was built on the right foundation.” – Andrew Pitt, SVP of Delivery, Intelliware

Timing is everything

ProWire’s success is a testament to how American and Canadian firms can successfully collaborate on technical projects, even while working remotely and dispersed. The firm has called on Intelliware for strategy, oversight, and turnkey application development from the start of their business journey, including the MVP. While originally conceived prior to the pandemic lockdowns, this innovative technology has become a key enabler for renewed fan engagement when sports return to play.
