Once again this year, Intelliware will be participating in the Take Our Kids to Work (TOKW) program. Our TOKW event is more than just a fun day away from school. For 12 years now, we’ve been using this day as an opportunity for students to explore different career options in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

Our fun and interactive day includes learning about various career paths in STEM and a hands-on programming exercise, giving students the opportunity to learn to code. Take Our Kids to Work Day is an event that supports career development by providing students with a day of in-depth career exploration and real-life experience in the workplace.

Again this year, we will be participating in The Hour of Code during our hands-on coding exercise.  The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify “code”, show that anybody can learn the basics, and broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts.

The TOKW program, which originally began in 1994 in the Greater Toronto area, has now bloomed into a national program across Canada, from Nunavut to Newfoundland. By bringing students into the office, we hope to give them an idea of what a day in the life of a tech industry professional looks like. We also hope to encourage more students to pursue STEM careers. Many people only think about Developers when they think of tech jobs, but we’d like to highlight all of the diverse and exciting positions available. As students are the future of the industry, we believe they should explore STEM career paths as early in their academic careers as possible. We’re thrilled to host a new group of students again this year!
