Intelliware enhances the pub dining experience with a mobile app.

Aurillion, today a division of Diebold, was known for innovating, developing and refining software solutions to improve productivity and automate workflow for patient care in a variety of healthcare settings. Aurillion supplied hospitals with self-serve registration kiosks for incoming patients, bar-coded inventory tracking systems, and a software platform to enable data exchange between all healthcare applications.

Challenge

Fionn MacCool’s wanted to give guests more information on its home-cooked menu items and extensive array of beverages. With more information available to them, customers could make more informed choices when ordering their meals.

Because the chain is known for its wide variety of beers served, Fionn MacCool’s also wanted to provide information such as tasting notes for the beer, wine, and other beverages on its menu. The staff also noticed that guests were more frequently asking about nutritional and allergen details for menu items.

To make the in-restaurant experience even better for guests, Fionn MacCool’s wanted to use mobile technology to offer nutritional and allergen information for each menu item as well as beer- and wine-pairing recommendations, without always relying on wait staff. The information had to be easily updated and managed by Fionn MacCool’s staff but accessible to the largest number of guests possible on their phones, at their tables.

Solution

Through a collaborative planning process, Intelliware recommended the development of a mobile optimized website accessible right from the menu using a QR code or, for phones without a scanner, a URL. Unlike a native app, a mobile site is accessible from any phone with internet browsing capabilities. And, unlike a regular website, the HTML5 site is built so that it is easy to access information and navigate from the small screen on a mobile handset.

Built in just weeks, the site provides all the nutritional and allergen information as well as beer- and wine-tasting notes and pairing suggestions. Fionn MacCool’s guests can become a fan on Facebook, rate and review the app and complete a customer satisfaction survey―right from their phone.
