Take Our Kids to Work (TOKW) is an annual program in which Grade 9 students spend the day in the workplace of a parent, relative, friend or volunteer experiencing and learning about the world of work. Held on the first Wednesday of November, the program supports career exploration and career readiness among Canadian public school students. Experiencing a “day in the life” of a professional within a workplace allows students to explore the world of work and helps them make informed educational decisions.

Launched in 1994, TOKW is the most recognized career readiness program in Canada with more than 200,000 students visiting workplaces every year.

For the 11th consecutive year, Intelliware will be hosting our own version of TOKW. Grade 9 students from across the GTA will step away from their classes to spend the day learning about technical careers at Intelliware.

Our TOKW event is more than just a fun day away from school. We use this day as an opportunity for the students to explore different career options in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Our fun and interactive day includes learning about various career paths in STEM and a hands-on programming exercise, giving students the opportunity to learn to code.

This year, for the first time, we will be participating in The Hour of Code during our hands-on coding exercise.  The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify “code”, to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts.

Take Our Kids to Work is an event that supports career development by providing students with a day of in-depth career exploration and real-life experience in the workplace.

On November 1st, we’re thrilled to host another eager group of students!
